How to Use
  1. Drop a video file you have on your device (MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM, AVI, M4V…).
  2. Pick an output format — MP4 (H.264) is the most compatible choice.
  3. Optional: change the resolution, quality, frame rate, trim a section, or mute the audio.
  4. Click Convert. The first run loads a one-time engine (~32 MB); after that it stays cached.
  5. Download your converted video. The file never leaves your device.

Convert video to any format — without uploading it

This is a full video converter that runs entirely inside your browser. Drop in an MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM, AVI or other common file and convert it to MP4, WebM, MOV, MKV, or an animated GIF — and while you're at it, change the resolution, lower the quality to shrink the file, drop the frame rate, trim out a section, or mute the audio. It's powered by a real ffmpeg engine compiled to WebAssembly, so the actual encoding happens on your own machine and your video is never sent to a server.

The most compatible output is MP4 (H.264) — it plays on practically every device, browser, and app, which is why it's the default. Reach for WebM when you want a lightweight file for the web, MOV or MKV when you just need a different container, and GIF for a short, silent, autoplaying clip.

A note on speed & size

Because the conversion runs on your CPU in the browser, time scales with the length and resolution of the video. Everything is held in your browser's memory, so extremely large or long files (multi-gigabyte or lengthy 4K footage) can run out of room — if that happens, trim the clip, choose a lower resolution, or convert it in sections. The first conversion of a session downloads the ~32 MB engine once and then caches it, so subsequent conversions start immediately.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is my video uploaded anywhere?

No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser using a local ffmpeg engine compiled to WebAssembly — your video and the converted output never leave your device. There's no server, no account, and nothing is stored. That makes it safe for private recordings and footage you don't want on someone else's cloud.

Which formats can I convert between?

Input: most common containers — MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM, AVI, M4V and more. Output: MP4 (H.264), WebM, MOV, MKV, or an animated GIF. MP4 (H.264) is the safest pick because it plays virtually everywhere; WebM is the lightweight choice for the web.

Why is the first conversion slow to start?

The first time you convert, the browser downloads the ~32 MB conversion engine once and caches it. After that it loads instantly. The conversion itself runs on your CPU in the browser, so longer or higher-resolution videos take longer — lower the resolution or quality if you want it faster and smaller.

What size of video can it handle?

Short clips and normal-length videos are fine. Because everything runs in your browser's memory, very large or very long files (multi-GB, or long 4K footage) can run out of memory. If a big file fails, try trimming it, lowering the resolution, or converting in sections.

How do I convert a YouTube video?

This converts video files you already have on your device — it can't download from YouTube links, and no in-browser tool legitimately can. If you have a video you're allowed to use (your own upload from YouTube Studio, or a download via YouTube Premium's offline feature), drop it here and convert it to whatever format you need. To pull just the audio out as MP3, use our Video to MP3 tool.

How do I use the Video Converter?

Simply type or paste your value and read the result, which refreshes the instant you change something. There is nothing to submit and nothing to wait for.

Does it cost anything or need an account?

No. The tool is completely free, there is no account to create, and it keeps working offline after the page first loads.

Is anything I type uploaded?

No. The tool works entirely on your device, so the values you enter never leave your browser.
