Most estimates come down to area and volume with a coverage rate: a bag of concrete fills a known cubic volume, a gallon of paint covers a known area, a sheet of drywall spans a fixed size. Get the geometry right — including pitch and waste — and the material count follows. Roofing adds trigonometry, since a roof’s true surface is larger than its footprint by a factor set by its pitch.
