Target GPA Calculator
Work out the GPA you need next term to reach a goal cumulative GPA — from your current GPA, credits completed, target, and the credits you'll take — with a feasibility check and best/worst-case outcomes.
How to Use
- Enter your current GPA and the credits it's based on, the target cumulative GPA you want, and the credits you'll take next term.
- The tool shows the GPA you need over those upcoming credits to hit your target — instantly, with a feasibility check.
- If the target isn't reachable in one term, it tells you the best you could do, and how many credits at a 4.0 it would take to get there.
- Set the scale to 4.3 if your school awards A+ above 4.0. Open Show Work for the formula.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is the needed GPA calculated?
Your cumulative GPA is a credit-weighted average. To finish at the target, your total quality points must equal target × (current credits + new credits). Subtract the points you already have (currentGPA × currentCredits) and divide by the new credits: needed = (target × totalCredits − currentGPA × currentCredits) ÷ newCredits.
Why does it sometimes say 'not reachable'?
Because each new term can only move your cumulative GPA so far. If you have many credits already, a single term has limited pull. When the needed GPA would exceed the scale maximum (4.0 or 4.3), the goal can't be hit in that many credits — the tool then shows the best you can reach and how many 4.0 credits it would actually take.
How do I raise my GPA the most?
Earn the highest grades you can in the most credits you can, as early as possible — the fewer credits you already have, the more each new grade moves the average. Retaking a failed course (where your school replaces the grade) and avoiding withdrawals also help. This tool's best/worst-case row shows the realistic ceiling and floor.
Does this match how my school computes cumulative GPA?
It uses the standard credit-weighted average, which is how most US institutions compute cumulative GPA. Schools differ on grade-replacement policies for retakes and on A+ weighting, so treat the result as a close estimate and confirm edge cases with your registrar.
How do I use the Target GPA Calculator?
Just type your numbers. The answer shows up right away — there is no button to press. Change anything and it updates by itself.
Do I need to install or sign up for anything?
Not at all — it runs in the browser with nothing to install and no account. After it loads once, it even works without an internet connection.
Is my information private?
Yes. Everything happens in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to a server or saved anywhere.
